Sandy AGUirre

Outfitter/Reservationist (She/Her)

I came into this world kicking and screaming, August 25th of 1991. Born to immigrant parents, life in California was not typical. The city of Angels saw many dark moments, from Rodney King riots to Bloods and Crips at war. However, I'm thankful for the efforts my parents made to give me a better life than the one they had.

The ocean was my first connection to the outdoors. Those summer nights, eating ice cream on the boardwalk, are some of my most cherished childhood memories. Unfortunately, gang violence and crime forced us out of the area and that's when I moved to Southern Utah, at the age of 12.

My dad loves to wander and explore, you could say I inherited that adventure spirit from him. I still remember the first time he took my siblings and I camping. He forgot the tent's tarp and I was so cold that autumn night, but the stars looked amazing. My dad was not very experienced with the outdoors but I am glad he didn't allow the fear of his inexperience to hold him back from sharing those moments with us.

I am passionate about helping others push out of their comfort zone and face their fears, because it is in those moments that we experience growth. For that same reason, Zion Guru has been a cornerstone in my life. The skills I have acquired and the adventures I have been able to be a part of have molded me into the person I am today. I look forward to helping others experience Zion National Park in the way that Zion Guru aspires to: Inspire. Empower. Explore.
